How to Choose a Color Theme for Mountain and Beach Homes

Before choosing individual pieces, start with a concept and theme. Here is how I build color themes for mountain and beach homes, plus my cheat sheet of colors, textures and materials.

Designing your home should feel exciting, but with so many colors, fabrics, and furniture choices, it can quickly become overwhelming. My strength is making that process easier—helping you turn a collection of ideas into a home that feels beautifully connected.

First things first: I start with a concept and theme. Before choosing individual pieces, we decide how you want your home to feel.

For a mountain home, that might mean warm ivory, mushroom taupe, walnut, and olive green, layered with natural stone, leather, and textured fabrics.

For a beach home, it might mean soft ivory, sandy neutrals, ocean blue, and sage, paired with airy linen, woven textures, and natural wood.

Your surroundings provide inspiration, and your personal style gives the home its character.

Take a look at my cheat sheet below. It’s a simple starting point for choosing colors, textures, and materials. Once we establish that direction, every decision becomes easier.
